I just got a deal on a used or factory-second red one from Ebay. Some people are still selling them for over $600, but some have them for around $350. I got mine for under $200 (but no case).

I had my heart set on a Gibson J-45 or AJ.

I got the chance to get this for cheap, though, and couldn't pass it up.

Some reviews say, "You'll think you're playing a $1500 guitar when you play this jumbo," but I wouldn't go that far.

I can say it sounds better to my ear than most Taylors I've played, and I've in-store strummed from the bottom end to the top.

It sounds better than Seagulls and Alvarezes (though I've never played a Yairi).

It even sound better than the Emmylou Harris Jumbo and the old Everly Bros. jumbo I played.

It doesn't, however, sound better than the Gibson AJ or the J-45. Both of those guitars are probably worth the +$2000 price tag, if you've got that kind of scratch.

The EG523SC, at least at this early stage, is more mid-rangey than the Gibsons. The bass on the Gibsons really BOOMs and each note rings out: orchestral is a nice description.

The Tak Jumbo is pretty loud and even though I've only had it for a couple of weeks it seems that when it--proverbilly--"opens up" that it will BOOM a little more than it presently does.

Clearly this is not a top of the line Tak or Gibson, but if we could afford those, we wouldn't even be shopping in this neighborhood.

That said, I think even if one does pay $600 for this guitar, one will be happy. Get one of the discontinued colors on Ebay for $350 and you'll be super happy. Troll around for a factory second for under $200 and you'll be ecstatic.

The guitar is well made (even it it was make in Korea) and it seems like it will mature well, and the RED one is a beauty.

I just bought an EG523SC on eBay about 3 months ago. It's a great guitar, nicely set up, and sounds great also. I had 2 Alvarez's before (and still have 1 now) and it plays nicer and sonds nicer than them. I have one issue with it, and someone may have an answer on it.......the low E string doesn't have much boom on it, amped or un-amped, anyone else come across this problem? But, I've noticed the nut has a superficial line along the low E sid eof the nut, looks like it may have a crack in it, but can feel a crack. If it's that, that may explain the low end sound being low. But this guitar really sounds and plays well, especially on my Roland Cube 30 on the JC Clean channel (with a little delay and about 1/2 level onphaser). Happy playing with the EG!!!

i was goin to buy that guitar but for a jumbo it has a really trebly sound. sounds really nice plugged in tho. so its up to you if you like it. Go play it and compare to other ones. expecially other jumbos.
